What GenTree Living is, what you will find here, and how we decide what to feature
If you are arriving from ROOTED, welcome. ROOTED begins with one small observation about home. GenTree Living is where those observations get more room.
GenTree Living is an educational publication about life at home. We write about the rooms we cook in, the energy we use, the systems that keep us safe and the traditions that bring families together. Our starting point is simple: living well begins at home.
We are not here to fill your house with more things. We want to help you notice more, understand the tradeoffs and make fewer, better decisions.
Five pillars, one home
GenTree Living is organized around five pillars. Each one starts with everyday questions and follows them far enough to be useful.
1. Conscious Culinary
Cooking, kitchen tools, cookware and outdoor cooking. These stories look at how we cook, what touches our food and whether a tool fits the way we actually live.
Recent stories include Kitchen Tool Fit: Start With the Routine and Cast Iron and Wrought Iron. Our Conscious Culinary stories also include Stargazer cast iron and Empava wood-fired ovens, products sold directly through GenTree Home, not affiliate products.
The Solidteknics AUS-ION pans pictured here are wrought-iron examples from our Cast Iron and Wrought Iron story. Solidteknics is an affiliate partner featured on GenTree Living; if you purchase through our link, GenTree Living may earn a commission at no additional cost to you.
2. Sustainable Living
Lower-waste choices and more thoughtful everyday living, one practical change at a time rather than everything at once.
Start with Why Bamboo? The Material Quietly Replacing Plastic Around Your Home.
3. Energy & Efficiency
4. Home Intelligence
Technology for safety, comfort and easier home operation, along with the quieter signals a house gives off. Every story here comes back to one question: what is the home telling us?
Recent stories include What Your Attic May Be Telling You and When Your Home Gives No Warning: What Radon Testing Actually Tells You.
5. Timeless Traditions
Where we are today
GenTree Living is new, and we would rather be honest about that than look finished. Some pillars have more published stories than others. Conscious Culinary, Energy & Efficiency and Home Intelligence each have several. Sustainable Living and Timeless Traditions are just getting started, with one and two stories so far, and we are adding to them steadily. If a pillar looks quiet today, check back.
How we choose what to feature
Every GenTree Living story starts with a real question about life at home: what is worth noticing, what is worth changing, what is worth keeping.
When a product helps answer that question, we research it and its claims. We look at how it is made, what the manufacturer says it can do and whether those statements can be verified. We feature items that fit the story and offer practical, lasting value. When a figure comes from the manufacturer, we say so. We do not describe a product as tested unless we have actually tested it.
Every story should be worth reading even if you never buy anything.
How product links work
Some products are sold directly through GenTree Home, part of the same GenTree family. Stargazer cast iron and Empava wood-fired ovens are sold directly through GenTree Home and are not affiliate products. When you buy them, GenTree earns revenue from that sale.
Other stories include affiliate links to brands we do not sell ourselves. If you buy through one of those links, GenTree Living may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. Each story makes its relationship clear, so you can tell the difference between education, a recommendation and a sales page.
Start where you live
Start where you live
You do not need to read everything at once. Choose the pillar closest to the question already in front of you:
You may come in through one pillar and find your question belongs to another. That is intentional. Home life is connected, and good decisions usually become clearer when we see the whole picture.
Welcome to GenTree Living.
