Why bamboo belongs in the conscious home — and the Vietnamese artisan brand behind the pieces we carry at GenTree Home.
It only takes one good bamboo piece to change how a room feels. A bowl or a serving tray can quietly shift a kitchen from purely functional to calm, warm, and intentional — and that is exactly why bamboo keeps earning its place in thoughtful homes.
Bamboo is durable, lightweight, and visually calm. It works especially well for serving and dining pieces because it offers a clean look and a solid presence without the plastic or chemical coatings that show up in so much everyday tableware.
“When you choose well-made bamboo pieces, you are not just swapping materials — you are bringing in something that can make everyday routines feel more grounded and considered.”
The Story Behind the Bowl
Where this idea was born
One of the best-known stories comes from Oregon, where makers began turning used bicycle parts into home goods with a simple idea: if something still has value, why throw it away? That spirit of reuse is what makes upcycled decor feel so compelling. It is not just about style — it is about giving material a second life and making something people want to keep close.
Handmade
Every piece meticulously crafted by hand. No two are exactly alike.
100% Natural
Free of chemicals and solvents. Water, natural pigments, tree resin, and marble powder only.
Food Safe
Protected by a food-safe varnish. Holds hot food up to 158°F, cold food, soups, and liquids.
Fair Trade
Artisans paid decently, provided healthcare, working in a toxic-free environment since 2007.
Bibol uses bamboo trimmings — the fast-growing plant needs constant cutting, and those cuttings become the raw material for every bowl, tray, and serving piece. There is no waste in that equation, which is part of why bamboo keeps showing up in conscious homes. It is not a trend. It is a correction.
The Bibol collection at GenTree Home
These are not trying to be flashy. They are trying to be well made, functional, and beautiful in a way that lasts. Every piece is unique because every piece is handmade — and that is exactly the GenTree standard.

Caring for your Bibol piece
- Hand wash only — hot water and dish soap, then rinse and dry immediately
- Do not soak, do not air dry, do not put in dishwasher or microwave
- Dry right away with a soft cloth — this keeps the varnish and bamboo in excellent condition for years
- Each piece is unique and handmade — slight variations in color and texture are a feature, not a flaw
At GenTree Home, we carry Bibol because it meets every part of our standard: natural materials, honest production, fair wages, and a story you can stand behind at the table. The bamboo is real. The craftsmanship is real. The fair trade is documented and certified by the Vietnamese government.
These are the kinds of pieces that feel right to keep, to use every day, and eventually to pass down. That is what we mean when we say consciously sourced — as kind to the planet as we can find.
